About the Graduate School

New Orleans is a city that prides itself on the diversity of its citizens, neighborhoods, and cultural traditions as well as an exuberant sense of community. These are characteristics shared by the Graduate School at the University of New Orleans.  

UNO awards graduate degrees in programs as varied as Business Administration, Chemistry, Conservation Biology, Counselor Education, Creative Writing, Educational Administration, Engineering and Applied Science, Environmental Engineering, Film Production, Financial Economics, Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering, Political Science, Public Administration, Psychology, and Urban and Regional Planning. These are just a few of the 38 master’s degree and 12 doctoral degree programs offered at UNO.

The Graduate School provides leadership and direction for graduate education that reflects the University’s urban mission. It ensures quality of graduate programs and promotes excellence within the context of pure and applied research and creative scholarship. In collaboration with the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs, the Graduate School seeks to increase grant activity and the recruitment of highly qualified doctoral and master level students.

Graduate Student News

Graduate Student Handbook now available.

• June 2 is the last date to pay fees for Summer 2009 registration.
• Summer 2009 classes begin Thursday, June 4.
• The last date to drop/add, change from credit to audit or resign for Summer 2009 is June 8.
• Registration for Summer/Fall 2009 is now ongoing. Course bulletins are online.
• Students applying to degree programs for the Spring 2010 semester may be eligible for Graduate Scholarships. Completed scholarship packets are due to the Graduate School by November 1. Contact your degree program for more information.

Summer 2009 degree candidates

• June 19 is the last date to turn in the Request for Master's Examination - Thesis and the Request for Doctoral Examination.
• July 8 is the date of the Thesis & Dissertation Workshop. Please email reviewer@uno.edu for more information.
• July 10 is the last date to turn in the Request for Master's Examination - Non-thesis.
• July 10 is the last date for Thesis and Dissertation defenses to be hold.
• July 17 is the last date for Non-thesis Examinations to be completed.
• July 17 is the last date for Thesis and Dissertation students to submit their manuscript for format check to reviewer@uno.edu. Format Requirements are posted here.
• July 24 is the last date for students to turn in the final, format approved PDF version of their manuscript to reviewer@uno.edu.
• July 24 is the last date for signed originals of the Thesis and Dissertation Approval form (signed twice by the student on the first page) to be turned in.
• July 24 is the last date to turn in the Master's Examination Report.
• July 24 is the last date for doctoral students to turn in the PQIL Author Agreement form and the Survey of Earned Doctorates to the Graduate School office.
